The Big Boys are in the shallows! Prime-time conditions

Who's ready to hook the world's largest cutthroat? This year is shaping up to be very memorable! The numbers of large fish in the lake this season seems unreal. Last year I netted 11 fish over 20lbs for clients. This season I have already netted 10 fish over 20lbs and we are only 2 months in. Not to count the 4 or 5 other fish that clients broke off at the boat that would have tipped the 20lbs mark on the scale. It's go time to get out and enjoy this world class fishery! I do have dates available throughout the season.

Current Fishing Conditions
As we move into Thanksgiving week, the fishing conditions at Pyramid Lake are just about perfect. The water temperature has stabilized, now hovering between 52°F and 56°F. These temperatures create ideal conditions and the fish have been feeding throughout the day. November and December are 2 of the best months for targeting the largest fish on the lake, and your percentage of large fish tend to increase.
Visibility in the water ranges from 5 to 8 feet, allowing anglers to spot deeper trench areas where these impressive fish often gather. This visibility creates perfect opportunities for late fall and winter fly fishing, making it easier to target the elusive cutthroats.
Early morning and late afternoon are typically great times to fish, but don’t underestimate the midday action, especially on cloudy days. Winds can stir up the water, enhancing conditions for fish too feed.
FOAM-FOAM-FOAM its time to either break out the foam indicators or your foam boobies and bettles to strip. The Fish are hanging in 4ft-15ft of water throughout most of the lake. Type 3-5-7 lines with 2 foam flies is a deadly technique in the winter months. Also carry a variety of chironomids in sizes 8-14 and balanced leeches in size 8-10 for indicator nymphing.
The Adventure Awaits
Pyramid Lake stands out as a premier destination for fly fishing enthusiasts, offering an extraordinary experience set against a stunning natural backdrop. As winter approaches, the excitement for catching Lahontan cutthroat trout continues to grow.
If you want a shortcut to learning the lake I will gladly share with you my knowledge and love for this amazing Fishery! Lets get out and enjoy some day's on the water.
