This world-class fishery has truly impressed me as a guide this season, and I’m incredibly grateful and excited to share what Pyramid Lake has to offer to fly fishermen. The 2024-2025 season has been nothing short of outstanding—not only in the sheer number of fish inhabiting this unique lake but also in the jaw-dropping size of the trout. Having fished these waters for over a decade and guided anglers for the past seven seasons, I can confidently say that the consistency of large fish this year surpasses any previous season.

Water temperatures have remained in the high 40s (47-49°F), depending on the area of this vast lake. Typically, this time of year sees temps in the low 40s, so the slightly warmer water has kept the fish more active. While a large number of baitfish may be holding in deeper water, there is still an abundance of forage in the shallows, giving trout plenty of opportunities to feed.
Feeding patterns have varied throughout the season. Some days, low-light periods produce great numbers and the occasional trophy fish. However, the most productive window for targeting Pyramid Lake's giants during the winter months has been mid-day, from 9 AM to 2 PM.

Weather conditions have been relatively mild this winter, making it crucial to adjust your techniques based on the conditions of the day. Stripping flies has been most effective during lower-light periods, with patterns that move water, such as Boobies, Beetles, Zonkers, and Woolly Buggers. The indicator bite has remained solid throughout the winter, and adapting to the conditions will pay dividends. Balanced Leeches and midges are your go-to patterns for this incredible stillwater fishery.

I have availabilty to share this phenonamal fishery with you from February through June. This fishery contiunes to evolve and the best is yet to come. Give me a buzz if you want to share a day or days on this amazing fishery I have studied and can ensure you a great experience.
