Eastern Sierra update
I am very excited to be heading back to the Mammoth area for August and September this year. Crowley has been showing us why it's known as one of the best stillwater fisheries on the West Coast. The fishing has been great this season and will continue into the fall. The river channels formed by the lake’s tributaries have been providing the best action due to cold water entering the lake.
This is a fun time to fish Crowley, as the trout are in shallower water and feeding on a variety of insects. Chironomids still make up a percentage of the trout's diet, but the summer and fall months also bring callibaetis mayflies, an abundant damsel hatch, and Sacramento perch fry! I've already had a few great days on the lake and am looking forward to many more. I still have available dates for both August and September on Crowley Lake. If you haven’t fished with me in the past few seasons, I’ve added a larger, more comfortable boat to enhance your experience on the water!
The rivers and streams throughout the Sierra have also been offering great opportunities, with some dry fly action as well. Sierra rivers and creeks typically run much cooler than the lakes and can be a great option during the mid-summer heat.
The Upper Owens has seen a mix of smaller resident fish and some larger rainbows and browns that have moved out of the lake in search of cooler temps. The East Walker River’s water temperatures will remain above 70 degrees until we see some cooler daytime and evening temps. We're projecting to be back on the EW once conditions improve—likely around late August to early September.

Pyramid Lake 2025-2026 Trips

It was another phenomenal year on Pyramid Lake! This season was mind-boggling with the number of large fish landed in the 20+ lb range—many even exceeding 25 lbs. One of my clients also landed a cutthroat this season that measured over 40 inches long and weighed 28 lbs!
The fish continue to thrive in Pyramid Lake thanks to the enormous amount of available forage.
I do have some rare early-season dates available due to cancellations: October 15–16, 18, and 24–26. My October days don’t open up often—if Pyramid has been on your bucket list, this would be prime time to make it happen!
